Carolyn J Esswein

Carolyn is a Professor of Practice and Director of Community Design Solutions at UWM’s School of Architecture & Urban Planning. She is also the owner of Ce Planning Studio, a firm that emphasizes placemaking to promote community investment. Carolyn’s teaching emphasizes meeting future technology and growth demands while creating vibrant communities for diverse users. Her visions and teaching have guided public and private development initiatives from Milwaukee’s Fondy Park to Oak Creek’s Drexel Square. Carolyn’s work has earned several state and national awards, including being a 2017 Harvard Innovation in Government Semi-finalist and the 2015 UWM Community-based Faculty of the Year.
